One of our new sites, Camp 8 has two levels, the lower level is right on the creek at a beautiful water hole with rapids, but is subject to occasional flooding during the wet season. The upper level is well above flood levels and offers some nice glimpses of the mountain range.
Size: Small camp site with a total of about 250 square meters of level ground.
The upper area A (190 sqm) has a turning circle so is suitable for trailers, but the lower area B (150 sqm) is quite narrow and absolutely not suited for trailers. Many people will require a five point turn to turn a normal car around.
Access: 4WD only, no RVs; small high clearance caravans and trailers on the upper area only
Occupancy: Basic fee includes 3 adults.
Suggested occupancy up to 10 people and 4 vehicles.
Privacy: ~75m from closest road and ~250m from closest camp site (all as the crow flies)
Fees:
Camp 08 is in our Premium Price Category
NOTES: above prices are per night and include any applicable loading or discount.
The base rate includes 3 adults or child equivalents (or 4.5 adults for long weekends or 6 adults for Easter)

Angela Adagra | 5 | We loved this camp site. It was very secluded and we didn’t see another person the entire time we were there. We camped in November and it didn’t feel hot at all due to the hill and river gums providing shade. It was only hot for a few hours during the day so we went wandering up the creek or sat reading books in the shade of the creek bed. Camp eight had a really secluded and safe feeling to it as it was compact (but plenty of room for all our equipment including a ten man tent and gazebo). The creek-front location is a definite bonus – you can hear the creek bubbling as you drift off to sleep. | large-tent | The site was perfectly suited to our camp set-up. Definitely enough sunshine to power our solar and plenty of room for the ten man tent and gazebo. Nothing we can think of to make the set-up better. | Its the best |
mark | 5 | Its privacy | small-tent,medium-trailer | it worked well | Its one of the best |
James | 4 | A nice shady spot with plenty of birdsong. | medium-tent,small-tent | Was great. | Its better than most |
anonymous | 5 | very private, shady, close to the creek | swag,small-tent,roof-tent,medium-tent | Great spot for smaller set ups, enough room for 3-4 medium size tents plus tarp set ups. We had no issues backing up trailers down to the lower camp site. | Its better than most |
Mark | 5 | It’s private and protected from wind. | medium-tent | No issues with camp site for tent and 4WD. There is a very cute but cunning local brown bandicoot who was quick eat any food scraps from your garbage bag or from your dishwashing bucket. It stole our dishwashing sponge! | Its better than most |
Bruce | 5 | Very private and close to the creek. We could hear a small bit of noise from camp 2 at times but not annoying. Birdlife was amazing! | medium-trailer | The trailer fitted in to t h e site well but tight getting out without reversing which was no real issue at all [OUR COMMENT: trailers not permitted on lower site] |
Its one of the best |
Desmond | 5 | Definitely its privacy and access to the creek. Well positioned site, flat ground for tent/camping area, right amount of shade. Walking distance to the falls, is good, but just the slightest traffic noise which is understandable. | medium-tent | Nil | Its better than most |
anonymous | 5 | Felt very private at the creek and lots of shade, very peaceful hearing the birds and sound of the creek. My family has been trying out different spots for a couple of years looking for that, go back to every holidays spot and we think we finally found our spot. Close to cairns, private, close to other things on the tablelands and has water. We were quite happy that you guys check each spot between visitors so we knew it was going to be clean and tidy when we got there. We met the caretaker and he was very helpful and friendly. The upper section of camp 8 was nice but there was heaps of ants nests with those nasty tiny red ones that seem to invade you if you stand anywhere near there nest so probably wouldn’t want to pitch a tent up there, I know this isn’t really something you can control when camping in the bush but just thought I’d mention it as the lower spot didn’t have any. Would love to come back with another family and have one group stay at the upper section to. Overall very happy with the spot and found it to be quite large! |
large-tent | Excellent, plenty of shade and enough space for a huge tent, 4wd and Gazeebo all spread out. Fire pit in a good area sheltered from wind. And down the other end away from tent. | Its the best |
Steven | 5 | Great privacy. Right next to the creek so great for the kids. Didn’t hear another soul all night. Just the sounds of running water, crackling fire, nature and good company. Will be back as soon as we can. Keen to check out some of the other sites. Thanks | swag,medium-tent | Awesome spot next to the creek for tent and swag setup | Its better than most |
Carah | 5 | The site offered privacy and total serenity. Unfortunately the lower area was not suitable for us to camp (we have a small off road caravan), however we made use of the upper camp area and walked down to swim/explore Emerald Creek. There was a planned burn-off across the creek during our stay which proved to be a beautiful site as the sun set. | small-caravan | The upper area was easily accessible and perfectly suited. It would have been amazing to camp at the lower area as this space was very tranquil and closer access to the creek, however the site didn’t allow enough room to turn around and not suited for vans. This space would be great for campers. | Its better than most |
Trent | 5 | Very private and located right near the creek. | roof-tent | Don’t change anything, it was excellent! | Its one of the best |
Barry | 4 | Being the first to camp at this site well situated and peaceful | medium-tent | We camped by the creek and had no difficulties at all | Its better than most |
